What is a mashrabiya?

A mashrabiya (مشربية) is a carved or pierced lattice screen from traditional Arab architecture. It filters sunlight, lets air move through a room and gives privacy while still letting people inside see out. Today, CNC cutting makes it possible to produce these detailed patterns accurately and repeatably, for both classic and modern interiors. Read the history of the mashrabiya.

Where mashrabiya panels are used

  • Room partitions: divide a majlis, living room or open office without blocking light
  • Window and balcony screens: privacy and shade for villas and apartments
  • Ceilings: backlit mashrabiya ceiling panels for majlis, halls and lobbies
  • Feature walls and TV walls: a textured backdrop with Arabic character
  • Staircases and railings: safe infill panels with a decorative finish
  • Doors, cabinets and wardrobes: pattern inserts for furniture fronts
  • Outdoor screens: garden, pergola and façade panels in ACP or metal

Our mashrabiya pattern catalogue

Every design in our catalogue has a code, so ordering is simple:

  • Square patterns (for example Malek 7, Malek 19, Malek 29, Malek 59): geometric star, circle and lattice designs
  • Long panels, L-series (L1 to L59): tall floral and geometric designs for doors, partitions and wardrobe fronts
  • Round designs, R-series (R1 to R40): rosettes for ceilings and walls

Any pattern can be scaled, repeated across a large wall, or adapted to your opening. You can also send a photo of a design you like.

Materials and finishes

  • MDF: the most popular choice for painted indoor screens and ceilings
  • Solid wood: a natural, stained finish for majlis and premium interiors
  • Acrylic: clean, modern panels, including mirror and coloured options
  • ACP and aluminium: weather-resistant options for outdoor and façade screens, cut in-house (steel is laser cut through a partner)

We cut sheets of 1220 × 2440 mm and 1220 × 3600 mm, from 2 mm to 30 mm thick as standard and up to 100 mm for heavy work. Panels are supplied raw (unpainted) as standard, ready for your painter; painting is available on request but adds time.

Mashrabiya FAQs

What is a mashrabiya panel made of?

Traditional mashrabiya screens were made of turned or carved wood. Today, most CNC mashrabiya panels are cut from MDF or solid wood for indoor use, and from ACP or metal for outdoor use. Acrylic is also used for modern, decorative versions. The right choice depends on where the panel goes and the finish you want.

Can you make a mashrabiya panel to my exact size?

Yes. Every panel is cut to order. Send us the width and height of your opening, the number of panels and your chosen pattern, and we will fit the design to your size. For large walls, we can split the design across several panels that line up neatly.

Do you deliver mashrabiya panels to Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Yes. We deliver CNC-cut mashrabiya panels by courier across the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Installation by our team is available in Ras Al Khaimah only.

How quickly can you make mashrabiya panels?

Standard mashrabiya cutting orders are usually ready within 48 hours of confirming the pattern, sizes and material. Painted panels take longer, so many clients order them raw and paint on site. Large project quantities are planned with you in advance so delivery matches your site schedule.

Can mashrabiya panels be used outdoors?

Yes, but the material matters. For gardens, balconies and façades we recommend ACP or aluminium, which handle UAE heat and humidity better than wood or MDF. Indoor MDF and wood panels should stay away from direct rain and irrigation.
